The tournament, which will be played over 18 holes with ¾ handicap allowance in Stableford format, will feature more than 100 golfers, according to a press statement issued by the organizers, Soaltee Crowne Plaza. [break]
The organizers said the winner will receive three free tickets of Etihad Airways and will be entitled to travel to any destination around the world where the airlines has its network.
Director of Soaltee Hotel Limited Bijay Bahadur Shrestha said the tournament is not only for sports but also for tourism. “Golfers from Dharan, Pokhara, Nawalparasi and Gorkha will also be participating in the tournament," said Shrestha.
Deepak Acharya, golf director at Gokarna Forest Resort, said this is the biggest amateur golf tournament of the country. “This tournament will not only help develop amateur golfers but also help in the overall development of golf in Nepal," said Acharya, who is also a professional golfer of Nepal. “More than 85 golfers have already confirmed their participation for the tournament,” he added.
Director Shrestha said this is a corporate golf tournament where all the member corporate houses will participate. “All the golfers participating in the tournament will be sponsored by certain corporate houses," he said.
Acharya said that more than 80 corporate golfers are members of the Gokarna Forest Resort and an almost equal number of golfers are associated with the Royal Nepal Golf Course as members. “Our main target is to bring more and more corporate houses in golf for the development of the game.”
