BETRAWATI, NUWAOT, May 1: Six days after the devastating earthquake that claimed over 5,500 lives, no rescue or relief team has reached the remote villages of Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts.

"I would not have rushed out. I would rather have stayed inside my home," said Sabitri of Gerkhu-2 Nuwakot, who was injured in the earthquake. Sabitri, who has been camping outside along with her neighbors said they have nothing left to eat.Entire villages in Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts have been leveled by the earthquake. Three helicopters have been regularly flying to these villages but only to airlift army personnel and foreigners trapped there. The movement of helicopters rattles the houses already damaged by the earthquake. The villages have been facing acute scarcity of the food.

Ramila Adhikari of Tupche, Nuwakot regrets being alive as she has not been able to feed her eight-year-old Son Prithivi and three year-old son Pritam for days. They were rescued from the debris of their house. Pritam has received multiple injuries to his body.

People injured in the earthquake are also awaiting treatment as there is no one to take them to the hospital. Continuous rainfall and chilly weather has made matters worse for new mothers, children and the elderly. Their health is fast deteriorating. People, who have been camping outside their homes, fear outbreak of an epidemic.

"Apart from the trauma of losing relatives, we are compelled to live without food and medical treatment," a survivor in Betrawati Nuwakot complained. Due to lack of home and other requirements, people who lost their dear ones have not even been able to perform the last rites of their deceased relatives.
