Six arrested for involvement in online gambling worth Rs 240 million in two months

KATHMANDU, June 17: Six individuals have been arrested for allegedly engaging in illegal online gambling worth Rs 240 million.


The arrested individuals are identified as Aakash Mishra, 25, of Kotahi Mai Municipality-6, Rupandehi, Abhishek Jaiswal, 22, of Siddharthanagar Municipality-5, Rupandehi, Nitesh Harijan, 25, of Omsatya Rural Municipality-1, Rupandehi and Ramu Giri, 29, of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City.

Similarly, police have arrested Pratik Basyal, 28, of Sainamaina Municipality-8, Rupandehi and Sajal Shrestha, 29, of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-30. They were arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police.


Hobindra Bogati, Superintendent of Police (SP) at CIB, said that the arrested were found to be involved in online gambling activities through Wolf777 Casino.


They have been accused of facilitating others to engage in online gambling by sending QR codes of various people’s bank accounts through social media. SP Bogati said that this group has been found to be playing online games worth Rs 240 million within two months.


According to the police, an investigation has been started against the arrested individuals under Section 125 of the National Civil Code Act for offenses related to gambling.
