Sinohydro started constructing a tunnel 10 months after it inked the contract with UTKHPL. [break]
Engineer Bishnu Bahadur Thapa, who is in-charge of the project powerhouse, said the workers have been working on the tunnel round the clock.
Sinohydro has dug 57 meters for the tunnel in last three weeks. “After digging 320 meters more, we will begin constructing other infrastructures, including the powerhouse,” Thapa told Republica.
The company has also started working on supporting tunnel to be constructed in the powerhouse. A supporting tunnel of 167 meters will be constructed for transformer caravan.
UTKHPL said construction of the tunnel will be completed in the next three months if the contractor keeps on working at the same speed.
“If there is no hindrance, we will see the construction of the tunnel complete in 90 days,” said Madhusudan Pratap Malla, Chief of Civil Department, UTKHPL.
A senior official of the contactor company claimed that civil constriction works, including construction of the tunnel will be completed on time as necessary manpower have been flown in from China.
Altogether 60 engineers and 100 skilled technicians and workers are from China.
Sinohydro said it will start constructing the dam within a month as the company. The dam will be constructed in Lamabagar Valley.
