Singer Amatya provides Rs 100,000 for NSJF library

KATHMANDU: Pop singer Yogeshwar Amatya has provided financial support to Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) for setting up a library at its office in Tripureshwar, Kathmandu. [break]



Amatya presented a check worth Rs 100,000 to NSJF´s immediate past president Niranjan Rajbanshi at the NSJF office on Monday. NSJF, the umbrella organization of sports journalists of Nepal, is planning to establish its own library in near future. Amatya, a sports lover and a member of New Road Team, one of the oldest football clubs of Nepal, also presented a 40-inch LED television to NSFJ. Meanwhile, Arun Bhattarai of TV Center, Kumaripati, presented a woofer set to NSJF.



Whitefield wins British Cup



KATHMANDU:  Whitefield College on Monday claimed the title of The British College Cup 2013 Football Tournament with a comfortable 4-1 win over Golden Gate College in the final. Bibhushan KC stole the show netting a hat-trick for Whitefield. KC opened the scoring in the 21st minute, added his second in the 51st and completed a hat-trick in the dying moments. KC was adjudged the best forward of the tournament. Pasang Lama also added a goal for Whitefield in the 35th minute. Sudan Thapa hit a consolation goal for Golden Gate in the 45th minute. Sujan Basnet of the winning team was declared the best goalkeeper while Prabin Gurung of the host The British College won the best defender award. Similarly, Kamal Thapa of Golden Gate took home the best midfielder award while George Prince Karki of St Xavier´s won the player of the tournament award.



Interaction on media and sports



KATHMANDU: South Asian Sports Journalists Association, Nepal (SASJAN) organized an interaction, entitled Media´s Role for the Development of Sports, in the capital on Monday. SASJAN General Secretary Radheshyam Dahal presented a working paper on the issue.



During the interaction National Sports Council (NSC) Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama, Vice-president Pitambar Timalsina, Treasurer Indra Bahadur Thing, Nepal Olympic Committee President Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan, Nepal Amateur Athletics Association President Nilendra Shrestha, Nepal National and International Players´ Association General Secretary Dipak Shreshta, Nepal Automobile Sports Association President Govinda Bhattarai, among others, stressed on the need for investigative reporting.



The speakers also suggested to media persons to be cautious about the accuracy and fairness of news. Also speaking on the occasion, Dr Saroj Shrestha shed light on different aspects of doping in sports.
