United Spirits organized a press conference on Thursday and informed that the tournament will be played on a different format called power play over nine holes and scoring will be done on a modified stableford system. [break]
According to the organizers, every green will have two flags -- easy and difficult -- defined by colors of flags. A player has to play at least three difficult holes and scoring birdie or better on power play holes will earn double points.
United Spirits has expected participation of 70 golfers including women and senior golfers. The participants will vie for the title in the three different categories of handicap (handicap 0-8, handicap 9-16 and handicap 17-24).
The winners and runners-up of each category will get chance to participate in Gokarna Golf Club in the regional finals to be held in India while the regional winners will play final round in Phuket, Thailand on December 2010.
General Manager of Sales of United Spirits Gautam Mullik said that his company is encouraged by the success of the event in the past years. Signature Rare Premium Whisky has been sponsoring the amateur golf tournament for the last few years.
