Shrestha wins an age-group title

KATHMANDU, Dec 9: Deepak Shrestha won the title of veteran´s singles event in the above 55-age category on Thursday during the ongoing Third APF Open Lawn Tennis Tournament.



Shrestha defeated Gyanendra Man Tamrakar 8-6 in the final played on the Armed Police Force´s Headquarter court at Halchowk.[break]



Likewise, the pair of Durja Kumar Rai and Durga Bahadur Kunwar beat Ramesh Kharel and Ashok Singh 6-1, 6-3 and booked a place in the final of the doubles event of inter-governmental service category.



Meanwhile, Shyam JC and Atma Ram Karki entered into the final of singles event of inter-governmental service category. JC defeated Kunwar 6-1, 6-3 while Karki eased past Ishwar JC 6-2, 6-3 in semifinals.



Suresh Kumar Shrestha gave a walkover to Kunwar while JC beat Pradip Shah 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. Likewise, Karki thrashed Nawal Shah 6-2, 6-4 to book a semifinal berth.



In the veteran´s singles event of above-35-age group, Sanu Gurung, Manoj Shah, Rajesh Chhetri reached the semifinal beating Rohit Sunuwar, Pratap Moktan and Madhav Thapa respectively.



In the veteran´s double event of above-35-age group, the pairs of Shree Ram Magar and Manoj Rana and Chandra Shahi and Sovit Man Shrestha are set to clash against each other in the final.



Magar and Rana beat Mahesh Shrestha and Dagendra Shrestha´s pair 6-3, 6-3 while Chandra Shahi and Sovit Man Shrestha defeated Rajesh Chhetri and Manoj Bikram Shah 6-3, 6-2 to enter the final.



Likewise, Kamal Thapa, Rajja Man Shrestha, Krishna Raj Ghale and Harbendra Singh reached semifinals in the veteran´s singles event of above-45-age group.
