PALPA, Feb 5: Senior journalist Hiranyalal Shrestha is going to be awarded with this year's Pushpalal Memorial National Journalism Award.
The award was established by Tansen municipality.
The award carries a purse of Rs 111,111 which would be presented on June 28 on the occasion of birth anniversary of Pushpalal.
Taking investigative journalism to new heights
Shrestha is chief editor of Daily Diary Weekly, Rato Yugdhara Weekly and Janajagriti Weekly.
Senior journalist Shrestha had been sentenced to three years in jail for writing editorial in Janajagriti Weekly.
The editorial was in support of the restoration of multi-party democracy in the country, during the single –party Panchayat rule.
Tansen municipality has also set up Pushpalal Memorial National Journalism Award fund for the award. Pushpalal was founder of Nepal Communist Party.
