KATHMANDU, Sept 8: Shiksha Nepal in collaboration with Kathmandu International School, Awakening Dream and Samunnat Karnali organized the 'VOW OF SILENCE: Silent Stand Against Illiteracy!' at Maitighar Mandala on Tuesday.
‘Wider participation must for eradication of illiteracy’
The event saw the participation of more than 200 individuals holding banners and placards with slogans such as "Let's make Nepal educated."
"The event was targeted for those many illiterate individuals barred from education due to their circumstances and are silenced by the lack of educational opportunity," said Prem Bahadur Bohara, founder and CEO of Shiksha Nepal.Bohara explained that many rallies and marches is about shouting slogans and expressing frustrations but this was intended to be different. "We endeavored to raise a stronger voice by remaining silent. It was a lot about self awareness as well."
The hour-long event began with the recitation of the National Anthem, followed by a thought sharing session by the participants in which they talked about the importance of education. There was then a three-minute silence for the noble cause. Goodwill Ambassador of Shiksha Nepal, Actor Karma was also present at the event.
Shiksha Nepal is a national non-profit and non-governmental organization that works to educate youth of Kathmandu on the many environmental and social concerns. It also mobilizes youth in fund raising activities meant for education projects in many remote areas, especially the Karnali region.
