BHAKTAPUR, July 23: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has warned that there would be no compulsion for the NC to support the present government if the cooling-off period recommended by the State Affairs Committee in the Civil Service Bill is reversed.

During a program organized by Madhyapurthimi Municipal to mark BP Memorial Day, he stated that the NC would be compelled to reconsider its support for the government if the committee's recommendation for a cooling-off period in the bill were ignored.

He, however, said, "Anyone involved in tampering with the Bill in a bid to erase the provision of the cooling-off period would be brought to book."

He hoped the tampering of the Bill relating to the cooling-off provision would be corrected by the National Assembly.

"If the Prime Minister directs to remove the provision, NC won't continue backing up this government," Sharma reiterated.

Similarly, he informed that a thorough discussion would be held on the Bill relating to Land in the parliamentary committee.

He urged the party leaders and cadres to be committed to the thoughts of BP Koirala.

Sharma argued that if the NC, other parties, and the monarchy had adhered to the principles and thoughts BP advocated, the country would not have suffered as much, with armed conflict, the abolishment of the monarchy, and other hindrances.
