KATHMANDU, Jan 8: Former national team forward Santosh Shahukhala has finally scored a record-breaking 100th goal in A-Division League.
Playing for Chyasal Youth Club this season, Shahukhala reached the milestone scoring a goal in a match against Nepal Police Club at the Dasharath Stadium, Kathmandu on Wednesday, becoming the first-ever Nepali footballer to have completed the feat.
Shahukhala netted the ball to the Police's post in the 17th minute making the best use of the ball that Police goalkeeper Satrughan Chaudhary failed to completely clear after saving the free-kick by Hemanta Thapa Magar of Chyasal. With this, he has scored 4 goals this season.
Santosh, who has been the league regular since the 2003 edition, had taken his total tally to 99 goals as he bagged three goals in the first two games this season. He scored two goals to guarantee the first win for Chyasal with a 2-0 drubbing of Sankata, while he added one more against Machhindra in a 1-1 draw to get a point for his team. However, he failed to reach the 100-goal mark during his game against New Road Team and Jawalakhel Youth Club.
Shahukhala, who spent most of his playing time with Three Star Club, has scored a total of 71 goals for the team. With that, he is also the highest scorer in the league for the club.
He scored another 16 for Manang Marshyangdi Club and six for the Armed Police Force (APF) Club.
He added three goals last season.
