ISLAMABAD, July 29: Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, a Pakistani politician who served as the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources in the third former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's ministry, is set to succeed Nawaz Sharif as interim Prime Minister of Pakistan for 45 days.
A member of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), Abbasi briefly held the cabinet portfolio of Minister for Commerce and Ministry of Defence Production in the former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani's ministry in 2008.
Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif resigned from his post on Friday, his office said, hours after the country's Supreme Court disqualified him over corruption claims against his family.
