In just a few days, the monitoring team lead by DFO has found nine schools operating lower secondary classes without due permission from the concerned authority.
“All these schools were running higher classes freely without permission and we believe that they are many others as well. We have decided to take legal actions against them,” said DEO Chief Ambika Prasad Regmi.
According to Regmi, most of the schools that were running illegally are based in Tagandubba, Pattariya, Rajgad, Buddhabare, Sanishchare, and Bahundangi VDCs.
Meanwhile, local teachers blamed the DEO for this state of affairs. “The monitoring team rarely takes their responsibility seriously. How can we expect them to visit private schools when they do not even visit government-run schools,” said a teacher of one of the community higher secondary schools in Jhapa.
“Every year around a dozen schools open without permission. But they are allowed to operate after paying fine. Had the authorities taken appropriate action, the schools would not have run classes illegally,” said the teacher.
Private schools in Bahundangi have been permitted to run classes up to grade five but actually have been running classes up to grade eight, informed Pitamber Gautam, a DEO official.
