Seven wards of Badimalika free of menstrual huts

The municipality has been carrying out a campaign to free itself of the harmful practice of banishing women to menstrual huts away from their homes during the menstrual period.

BAJURA, Dec 11: Badimalika Municipality has declared seven wards of the municipality as menstrual hut-free to end the harmful practice of Chhaupadi.



The municipality has been carrying out a campaign to free itself of the harmful practice of banishing women to menstrual huts away from their homes during the menstrual period. Accordingly, the municipality has declared all wards except Ward Nos. 1 and 7 as Chhaupadi Goth-free through the 'Deputy Mayor with Women Program'.

On Wednesday, the municipality declared Ward No. 8 as the seventh ward free of such menstrual huts. Deputy Mayor Nanda Thapa said that the ward was declared Chhaupadi Goth-free after monitoring 456 houses in the ward. 


According to the program, 90 percent of the houses should be free of Chhaupadi Goth to be declared as free from it.
