Seven remanded into custody for stealing idol

CHAUTARA, Nov 6: The District Court has remanded into custody seven persons including the priest who were arrested on the charge of stealing ancient idol of the historic Gaurati Bhimeswor in Pipaldanda VDC of Sindhupalchok district.



The order was issued by the bench of the District Judge Ananta Raj Dumre.[break]



The idol kept at the house of main priest Bal Bahadur Shrestha was stolen in the coalesce of another priest Krishna Bahadur Shrestha on September 15.



The persons involved were arrested by the district police with cooperation of the CBI on October 1 from Balefi of Aranico Highway.



The one arrested are priest of Pipaldanda -8 Krishna Bahadur Shrestha, main mastermind Ganesh Shrestha of Irkhu-7, Padma Shrestha alias Narayan, Dil Bahadur Shrestha and Chin Bahadur Tamang and Baidya Tamang of Fulpingdanda-2.



Those helping to hide the idol Makar Tamang of Fulpingdanda- 2 was ordered to keep in custody as he was unable to submit a bail amount of Rs. 260,000. The 121-years old one feet high gold and silver idol weighs 3 kgs.



As the Department of Archeology proved it to be archeological, they were filed cases as per the Ancient Monuments Protection Act- 2013 BS., police said.
