KATHMANDU, Feb 4: Seven major political parties have agreed in principal to form local bodies based on the votes they secured during the Constituent Assembly election under proportional electoral system.
According to government-run Radio Nepal, the parties reached the understanding at a meeting held at the Ministry of Local Development on Tuesday.
Representatives of main opposition Nepali Congress and Tarai Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) along with the all the five ruling parties were present at the meeting.
Talking to the media at the end of the meeting, Minister for Local Development Ram Chandra Jha said that a planned meeting of the major political parties for Thursday would finalize procedures for the formation the local bodies.
