POKHARA, Nov 25: A total of seven Murrah buffalo bulls of advanced breed gifted by India were brought to Pokhara on Friday night.
Murrah buffalo bulls, which arrived in Pokhara via the Rupaidiha border crossing, Butwal in Nepalgunj, have been kept at the National Livestock Breeding Office, Pokhara.
Out of 15 Murrah buffalo bulls gifted by India, seven have been brought to Pokhara. Murrah buffalo bulls, which arrived in Pokhara, were welcomed at the office on Friday night with a round of applause and garlands. Dr Jagadish Pandey, Head of Breeding Office, Pokhara, said that before collecting the semen of Murrah buffalo bulls brought to Pokhara, it will be kept in quarantine.

"In the first stage, the snakes brought here will be kept in quarantine for 21 days and only after that, will they be ready for semen collection," he said.
During Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s visit to India in May, an agreement was reached between Nepal and India on cooperation in the field of agriculture and livestock. Accordingly, India announced that it will provide advanced breeds of Murrah buffalo bulls for Nepal's dairy and meat development.
According to the Nepal-India agreement in the field of agriculture and animal husbandry, an advanced breed of Murrah buffalo bulls entered Nepal on Wednesday. Murrah buffalo bulls of advanced breed brought to Nepal, including Pokhara, three are kept in Nepalgunj and three in Lahan.
The Murrah buffalo breed, developed by the Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes, is renowned as one of the most advanced breeds globally. Originating in Haryana, India, through extensive genetic development, this breed is considered the best for milk production development.
