Seven injured after a grenade explodes at UML's poll gathering

TAPLEJUNG, Nov 9: Seven people were injured after a grenade went off at a public gathering organized by the CPN-UML in Taplejung constituency-2 on Saturday in the run up to the November 19 Constituent Assembly election.



According to the police, luckily only one of the two grenades hurled at the gathering by some unidentified group exploded. [break]



Two of the injured -Padam Magar, 12, of Khokling-2 and Man Bahadur BK, 45, of ward number 4 of the same VDC - are critical, the police informed.



Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Govinda Prasad Acharya, said that they have launched a manhunt to nab the assailants.

The incident site is just five-hour walking distance from the district headquarters.



Tara Sawa , one of the eyewitness , said that two youths had hurdled the explosives at the gathering from a distance of around 30 meters.

Earlier on Sunday, an unidentified group had distributed leaflets in the area, warning the people not to participate in any polls related activities.
