(Updated with details, 1245 NST, 0700 GMT)BIRGUNJ, March 19: About half a dozen students were wounded in serial bomb blasts in front of the Thakurram Campus in this eastern town.
The blasts occurred between 10.35 a.m. and 10.40 a.m. [break]
The students were in a queue to cast their votes for the Free Students´ Union election. then FSU elections are being held throughout the country.
The condition of one Sudhir Sah is critical. The injured have been taken to Narayani Sub-regional Hospital, Birgunj.
The internal conflict of Nepali Congress-affiliated Nepal Students´ Union (NSU) had left the area tense since early Thursday morning. There was a serious difference about the authorized panel as three separate panels of NSU filed nominations for the FSU polls. One of the panels of the NSU had burnt tires and obstructed road apparently to obstruct the voting process.
The Campus administration had started voting at about 9:45 pm after calling in a large number of police personnel. The dissenting students had sloganeered after the voting started.
The explosion took place 45 minutes after the voting began. This has left the voters who had reached the campus terrified.
According to police, the situation in the campus is under control now.
The oldest and largest in the whole Tarai area, the campus has a total 7,672 voters.
