KATHMANDU, Nov 12 : Senior Nepali Congress leaders have expressed dissatisfaction over the nomination of Bijay Kumar Gachhadar as the vice-president of the party.

At an informal meeting held at leader Sujata Koirala’s residence Mandikatar on Monday, the disgruntled NC leaders expressed displeasure over some of the ‘unilateral decisions’ taken by Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba, according to leaders involved in the meeting.

“President Deuba’s recent decisions are against the spirit of consensus. For instance, the nomination of the leader Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar as the vice president of the party,” NC leader Dr Ram Sharan Mahat told Republica Online.

NC’s senior leaders Ramchandra Poudel, Prakash Man Singh, Sujata Koirala, Dr Shashaka Koirala, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, Arjun Narsingh KC and Dr Shekhar Koirala attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the NC leaders expressed dismay over the recent activities of the party leadership. According to Mahat, the NC leaders also discussed about the amendment of the party’s statute. “We believe that the party should run based on consensus and collective wisdom. We are not happy with the party president’s unilateral decisions,” he said.

The meeting has been widely perceived as the dissident leaders’ attempt to counter the party leadership.

The meeting comes at a time when the NC’s Mahasamiti meeting scheduled for November 21-25 has been postponed for December 14-18 citing lack of time for amending the party’s statute.

A recent meeting of the NC Central Working Committee had nominated leader Gachchhadar as the vice-president of the party. Leader Gachchhadar, who had quit NC in 2008 and joined the then Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Democratic) had re-joined the party in 2017 after the merger of two parties.
