Senior citizens run for political brotherhood

ITAHARI, Sunsari, May 10: CPN-UML, Itahari, organized a race of senior citizens above 60 to mark the 5th city convention of the party and to promote political brotherhood in Nepal on Sunday morning. [break]



Sixty-five people in between the ages of 60 and 92 years participated in 1.5-km race. The race started from Itahari Muncipality gate to tempo stand and then headed back to the starting point again.”



Abhiman Karki (61) of Itahari-7 stood first in the race. Chulai Miya (62) of Itahari-9 and Amrit Karki (65) of Itahari-6 finished second and third, respectively.



UML district committee secretary Rudra Subedi said the winners will be provided with cash prize and certificates. "Hundreds of locals were watching these senior citizens running on the streets," Subedi added. “Briddha Chautari”, a group of senior citizens close to the UML, organized the race.



Among the senior citizens who took part in the race were Kashinath Pokhrel (92), Dibya Nath Bhattarai (88), Nayan Prasad Ghimire (88) and Rebanta Bahadur Shrestha (87).



Briddha Chautari had organized a similar race three years ago. “This race has spread a unique gesture of goodwill in politics,” Chulai Miya, who came second in the race, said.
