Senior citizen dies in fire accident

KATHMANDU, Nov 13: A senior citizen died on Sunday after a butter-lamp, lit for Laxmi Puja, resulted in a fatal incident.


The deceased has been identified as 83-year-old Sabitra Devi Malla, a resident of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality in Bhaktapur.

According to DSP Basanta Pathak of Bhaktapur,  the incident occurred as Malla was lighting a lamp to worship Goddess Laxmi on the second floor of a three-story house. However, the flame caught onto the clothes she was wearing.


In an attempt to extinguish the fire, her husband, 85-year-old Guru Prasad Dahal, poured water on her. Despite the effort, the fire persisted, leading to Malla's demise on the spot, as confirmed by DSP Pathak.


The police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
