KATHMANDU, Sept 18: Head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Song Tao will arrive in Kathmandu on a two-day visit on September 23.
Bishnu Rijal, deputy chief of the International Relations Department of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, told Republica Online that the Chinese delegation will visit Nepal at the invitation of his party.
During the visit, the Chinese delegation will hold separate meetings with President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Co-chairperson of NCP Pushpa Kamal Dahal, senior leader of NCP Madhav Kumar Nepal and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Senior leader of CPC to visit Nepal on September 12
Song's meetings with the top political leaders will be aimed at gauging political consensus for Chinese President Xi Jinping's possible visit to Nepal, according to diplomatic sources.
Nepali side is hoping the visit of Chinese President Xi to Nepal in the course of his five-day state visit to India beginning from October 11. It is learnt that the two sides are working out to finalize the specific dates through diplomatic channels for Xi's visit to Nepal.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who visited Nepal from September 8-10, told the ruling and opposition party leaders of Nepal his country was considering President Xi's state visit to Nepal while urging the leaders to play role in making the visit productive.
The senior CPC leader's visit to Nepal will also be focused on further strengthening age-old bilateral ties between the two countries and party-to-party relations between Nepal's ruling and opposition parties and Chinese Communist Party, sources added.
