A meeting of the Special Committee held at Singha Durbar directed the secretariat to present the work plan for rehabilitation and integration in the next meeting scheduled for December 19. [break]
“The next meeting will endorse the work plan with necessary amendments,” said Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Ram Sharan Mahat, a member of the Special Committee.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, Dr Mahat said the meeting held detailed discussions about works to be done by Special Committee and necessary preparations to be made in that regard after United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) leaves Nepal on January 15, 2011.
The decision comes in the wake of UNMIN writing to Prime Minister Madhav Nepal and the Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal requesting clarification on several monitoring-related issues such as the status of the Agreement on Monitoring of the Management of Arms and Armies (AMMAA), the Joint Monitoring Coordination Committee (JMCC), the parties´ planned supervisory arrangements and the disposition of the UN´s monitoring-related equipments.
Earlier, the Special Committee had appointed General Bala Nanda Sharma as the coordinator of the secretariat, giving full shape the body meant to expedite integration and rehabilitation process by bringing all the cantoned combatants under its direct control.
The Special Committee meeting on Thursday also discussed the need to provide necessary resources to help the secretariat function smoothly.
The Special Committee members are scheduled to hold another round of discussions with the secretariat members on Friday.
