KATHMANDU, August 20: Senior CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal sent a request to register a new party at the Election Commission, stating that he was not given a place in the party by CPM-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli.

However, the second generation leaders of the UML are trying to halt the split in the party and request Nepal to take his decision back. “We have urged  Chairperson KP Sharma Oli for the implementation of the 10-point deal which was reached on July 11 and Nepal to withdraw his request to form a new party,” lawmaker Bhim Acharya said. According to Acharya, the split in the party will not be justifiable if the 10-point deal for party unity is implemented.

Earlier, discussions were held between leaders Bhim Rawal, Yuvraj Gyawali, Amrit Bohora, Surendra Pandey, Ghanashyam Bhusal, Gokarna Bista, Raghuji Panta and Yogesh Bhattarai on Thursday to urge both senior leaders to maintain the unity of the party, citing that no one will benefit from the split and that both leaders should give up their egos.

Nepal was supported by the party’s standing committee members Mukunda Neupane and Beduram Bhusal on Wednesday, while going to the election commission for the registration of the new party. Other members of the standing committee and supporters of Nepal did not accompany him, stating that the division of the party was wrong. They have called for a meeting of central members on Friday to pressure KP Oli and Nepal in favour of party unity.

Leaders of the Nepal-led faction, Bhim Rawal, Surendra Pandey, Yogesh Bhattarai, Amrit Bohora, Yuvraj Gyawali, Parshuram Meghi Gurung, Astalaxmi Shakya, Raghuji Panta, Gokarna Bista, Bhim Acharya among other central members have been requesting Nepal to work toward unity in the party.

Likewise, standing committee members of the Oli-led faction, Subash Nembang, Vishnu Poudel, Prithvi Subba Gurung, Kiran Gurung among others have been requesting KP Oli to implement the 10-point proposal and make a written call for party unity.
