Search on for missing passengers

BANEPA, Sept 12: Search for the missing passengers of the Sindhupalchowk bus accident continued in Sunkoshi river for the third consecutive day on Saturday. [break]



The search continued as families of Leela Sapkota of Kubhinde and Sahili Shrestha and Dhan Kumari Shrestha of Falpingdanda said that the three have not come into contact yet. There are no further complaints, the police said.


A team of local fishermen, relatives of the missing and police are continuing search operation using inflatable boats. The team searched from the accident site at Ghumnedanda till Pachuwarghat in Kavre on Saturday and plans to reach Dumje in Sindhuli on Sunday, said inspector Harikrishna Khatri.



Police said all 20 bodies recovered till date have been handed over to the respective families. Thirteen of the dead are male and seven are female. Four of the dead are from Kubhinde, Sindhupalchowk, three each are from Yamunadanda and Batase while the rest are from other different villages.



The passenger bus (Na 2 Kha 6228) belonging to Arniko Yatayat headed from Jalbire in Sindhupalchowk to Kathmandu had veered off the highway and plunged into the river on Thursday morning.
