Sushant Pradhan belongs to a new breed of health gurus who apply science to their fitness regime. A self taught fitness trainer, he runs ‘The Physique Workshop’ at Kumaripati.

Sushant maintains a strong social media presence. He is an active YouTube vlogger since 2014 and uploads quick tips on diets and exercise designed to Nepali viewers.

Though he is a certified ACTION personal trainer, he doesn’t want to restrict himself just with that certificate.

The young fitness entrepreneur talked to Republica about his profession and his aim to change the lifestyle of Nepali people.

Why did you decide to become a fitness trainer?

I have always been a skinny kid. I was 5’9” and 47 kg when I finished high school. So I know how it feels when you are not comfortable with your own body. That’s why I wanted to help people who feel the same. Back when I started, there was no such thing as ‘science’ when it came to fitness. All the information was based on traditional beliefs. Needless to say, people were (and still are) living with myths regarding fitness. I wanted to introduce proper science and educate methods in the fitness industry.

What are your daily responsibilities? How do you work with your clients?

I make sure my clients are doing well. And I coordinate with my trainers in helping my clients reach their goal. My main field of expertise is strength training and nutritional counseling. I sit down with clients to understand their body types and fitness needs, and then design a custom workout and diet plan. I think fitness program should be tailored for each individual.

What is your mantra to keep clients happy and motivated?

“You can always do more and better”. I focus on providing quality service and delivering the most effective results. I believe that your clients are your brand ambassadors. They help build your portfolio and credentials.

What are your career goals? And how are you trying to achieve them?

As a fitness coach, my goal is to introduce fitness as a lifestyle for Nepali people. As an entrepreneur, my goal is to expand my business into various aspects of fitness. Personally, delivering quality service and helping people with their goals help me get the word of mouth which in turn boosts my brand. Also with my YouTube videos, I am able to reach out to a larger crowd.

If someone is interested to join the fitness field?

Learn more, stay updated with current health researches and build a team of passionate and like-minded individuals. First and foremost, proper knowledge is the key. You also have to be a good communicator to motivate your clients.

What are your future plans?

I have been getting a lot of requests for personal training. Sadly, I have no time for personal training sessions. That’s why I am starting an online personal training program on my website (www.sushantpradhan.com). I also have plans to open another Physique Workshop in Kathmandu.
