This campaign of the educational code of conducts, which was first enforced a year ago in the capital, is being implemented in Chitwan. According to a directive issued by Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB), the prohibition will come into effect after a week in Chitwan. The decision was taken in the presence of HSEB officials during a meeting held on Monday. [break]
The HISAN has granted complete authority to the Traffic Police in the district to take action against the student defying the rule.“We will notify students about the rule for a week and thereafter they will have to follow it,” said Rabin Shrestha, in-charge of the Chitwan district traffic police. “For this rule is meant for their safety.”
There have been many cases of accident, including serious injuries and death, in Chitwan and a lot of them involve students.
“If students are caught for the first time, their parents will be summoned and the student will be released with a warning. But if the same student is caught again then he or she will be handed over to the college after making him pay a fine of Rs 5,000,” said Shrestha.
Besides the prohibition on ridding motorbikes in school uniform, the board officials have also decided to ban mini-skirts among schoolgirls. “We have also decided to take action if female students are found wearing mini-skirts, taking or possessing tobacco products inside the school premises, or bunking classes to watch movies,” said Sanjay Bahadur Raut, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the Chitwan District Police Office.
Shrestha assured that they have left no stones unturned in maintaining the civic order in the district. “Besides keeping our surveillance on students, we have effectively reduced drunken driving in Chitwan,” said he.
