“We have been asking for a land since longtime,” said Padam Bahadur Shahi, president of SCCI. “We will launch other protest programs if the TDC does not provide us with a land within three days.”[break]
The SCCI and Ministry of Commerce and Supply (MoCS) reached an agreement last January to establish an herbs centre in Surkhet.
“The plan of constructing herbs processing centre in Surkhet will not materialize until TDC provides land,” Udi Ram Dangi, secretary of the SCCI, said. The MoCS has allocated Rs 6 million and Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) have allocated Rs 2.3 million for the construction of HPPC in Surkhet.
According to Dangi, more than half of the construction work would have been completed by now if the land was available. The government had allocated money for the construction of HPPC in Surkhet in the hopes of developing Surkhet as a center for advanced herbs processing.
