KATHMANDU, Feb 5: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday ordered the prime minister, the attorney general and advocate Govinda Prasad Sharma ´Bandi´ to be present before the court for discussion on whether there is a need to annul the interim order regarding the journalist Dekendra Thapa murder case.

A division bench of justices Girish Chandra Lal and Sushila Karki issued the order after conducting hearings on two separate applications filed by Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and Attorney General Mukti Pradhan on Sunday. [break]

In their applications, the prime minister and the attorney general had argued that the regular criminal justice system cannot deal with conflict-era cases. They had further stated that the Interim Constitution envisages formation of a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to resolve cases related to insurgency.

Similarly, the SC has summoned petitioner ´Bandi´ and defendants Office of Attorney General, Dailekh District Attorney´s Office and District Police Office for discussion on the apex court´s interim order issued last month.

The SC on January 15 had ordered the Office of Attorney General, Dailekh District Attorney´s Office and District Police Office not to obstruct the ongoing investigation into the case. Thapa was killed by Maoist cadres some eight years ago.
