KATHMANDU, Feb 12: Supreme Court stays government decision to appoint Jaya Bahadur Chand as the Inspector General of Nepal Police.
Supreme Court on Sunday afternoon issued interim order not to execute the government decision of appointing DIG Jaya Bahadur Chand as the Inspector General (IG) of Nepal Police until next order from the court.
The Cabinet meeting on Sunday morning had taken the decision of appointing Chand as Nepal Police IG.
Responding to a writ petition filed by advocate Kapil Dev Dhakal, the single bench of Chief Justice Sushila Karki issued the interim order not to execute the government decision.
The bench has also asked the government to furnish documents related to the performance of all the Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) of Nepal Police.According to Advocate Bhimarjun Acharya, the bench has summoned all the defendants of the petition to present their argument in the case.
The government had taken the decision to promote Chand as the new IGP today.
