KATHMANDU, August 10: The Supreme Court on Monday overturned the Sher Bahadur led government’s decision to dissolve the Land Related Problems Resolution Commission (LRPRC).

The Supreme Court on Monday issued a short-term interim order not to implement the decision of the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government to dissolve the commission formed earlier to resolve the land related problems. A single bench of Justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada summoned both the parties for discussion, issuing a short-term interim order till August 17.

"A short-term interim order has been issued to maintain the status quo of the LRPRC until August 17, 2021, without any change or alteration," the order issued on Monday read. The joint bench of the apex court will then decide whether to continue the interim order. The next hearing is scheduled for August 17.

A written reply has also been demanded within 15 days on whether to issue an interim order or not. Devi Prasad Gyawali, chairperson at the commission on Sunday filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court seeking reversal of the government's decision.

The government's decision to scrap the commission has been put on hold for now. The Deuba-led government had decided to scrap the commission on August 3. The petitioner claimed that the commission carrying the constitutional and legal responsibilities of the government should not be dismissed without any solid basis. The petitioner had demanded the reinstatement of the commission formed for three years.
