KATHMANDU, July 16: The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday issued a stay order against the expulsion of National Sports Council (NSC)´s vice-president Pitambar Timilsina.

A single bench of Justice Rana Bahadur Bam issued an interim stay order directing the government not to implement its decision until further notice. [break]

Youth and Sports Minister Ganesh Tiwari Nepali, who is also the president of NSC, had sacked Timilsina for vandalizing the office of NSC Member-secretary Hari Babu Chaudhary and manhandling him last Friday following a dispute over the construction of eastern regional stadium.

Timilsina had moved the SC on Thursday arguing that he was not given an opportunity to clarify himself before being sacked. Timilsina´s lawyers had filed a writ petition stating that he was nominated the vice-president of NSC as per Clause 3 of the Sports Development Act 2048 BS for a four-year term.

Responding to the writ, Justice Bam issued the order stating that further discussion between the two parties would be held on July 25.
