KATHMANDU, Aug 20: The Supreme Court on Monday ordered the authorities to produce Khadga Bahadur Bishwakarma, spokesman of the Maoist party led by Netra Bikram Chand at the apex court within 24 hours.
A single bench of Justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada issued the order following hearing conducted on Monday. The bench was responding to a habeas corpus petition filed by Birendra Bishwakarma seeking the release of the leader.
SC orders to present Bishwakarma at court within 48 hours
Bishwakarma is currently in detention at the District Police Office, Kavrepalanchowk.
On Thursday, the Supreme Court had ordered his release but he was arrested immediately from the court premises by police and was produced at the District Court, Kavrepalanchowk, which remanded him to three days in police custody to investigate the criminal charges against him.
Bishwakarma has been charged with multiple crimes including extorting from businessmen and vandalizing of public and private property.
