KATHMANDU, July 21: The Supreme Court has ordered the release of Secretary Krishna Bahadur Raut, who was arrested in connection with the Lalita Niwas land grab scam.
Raut's family went to the Supreme Court with a writ petition of habeas corpus. A Division Bench of Justices Prakash Kumar Dhungana and Nahakul Subedi stated that there was no basis, reason and justification for keeping Secretary Raut in custody.
Govt attorney’s office to prosecute Secretary Raut
The apex court has ordered the government bodies concerned to investigate the case by putting him on a date as per the Section 15 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Civil Code. However, Secretary Raut is barred from going abroad until the investigation is completed.
Raut, who serves as Secretary at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, was arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police on July 9 for investigation into the Lalita Niwas land grab scam.
