KATHMANDU, April 10: The Supreme Court on Friday asked chairman of the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) Pushpa Kamal Dahal and another senior leader of the party Dr Baburam Bhattarai to furnish clarification on a contempt of court case filed against them in the SC within seven days.

According to myrepublica.com correspondent Kiran Chapagain, Justice Rajendra Prasad Koirala issued the order in response to the case filed on Thursday by journalist Murari Kumar Sharma. Sharma moved the court against the Prime Minister and Finance Minister, among others, for speaking against the court’s stay order against the government decision to pension off eight brigadier generals of the Nepal Army.

Sharma has accused Dahal, Dr Bhattarai and Maoist leaders Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Chandra Bahadur Thapa ‘Sagar’ and Shalik Ram Jammakattel of disrespecting the judges and the court in the aftermath of the stay order issued on March 24.

Maoists took to the streets and burnt the effigies of the judges.  Finance Minister Bhattarai had even accused the judges of conspiring against loktantra.
