SC issues mandamus to remove additional tax on sanitary pads

The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a mandamus order directing the government to remove the additional tax imposed on sanitary pads.

KATHMANDU, June 20: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a mandamus order directing the government to remove the additional tax imposed on sanitary pads.


A joint bench of Justices Dr Manoj Kumar Sharma and Mahesh Sharma Paudel issued the mandamus order on Thursday.

Shreena Nepal and Abhyudaya Bhetwal had filed a writ petition in 2078 BS, arguing that the imposition of tax on sanitary pads violated Articles 16, 18, and 38 of the Constitution of Nepal (2015). They had demanded that the government remove the tax.
