KATHMANDU, Feb 22: Supreme Court on Sunday issued an interim order to Nepal Army to stop the recruitment process until March 1. The court in its order said it will conduct further hearing in March whether the process is as per the spirit of the peace process and the Interim Constitution and whether it should continue the interim order or not. Justice Anup Raj Sharma gave the decision Sunday after hearing on a writ filed by human rights NGO INHURED International last Tuesday. Three lawyers on behalf of the NGO have claimed that the recruitment process is against the spirit of the peace process and interim constitution.

There was a long war of words between the Army Headquarters and the Defense Ministry over the recruitment of 2,884 personnel in Nepal Army. Nepal Army generals claim the process was their regular business and was as per the peace agreement and the interim constitution while Defense Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa claimed it was against both of them.

Thapa who is also a senior Maoist leader asked the Army Headquarters to stop the process but the Army HQ defied it. The solders in most of the training centers have already started training.
