Saudi Arabia to support Rs 3b in reconstruction

KATHMANDU, Dec 15: Saudi Arabia has agreed to provide a loan assistance of US$30 million to help speed up Nepal's reconstruction efforts.


This was agreed at meetings between the representatives of the Fund for Development of the Saudi government and the officials of National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), according to a press statement issued by the NRA on Thursday.

The meetings were held at NRA office December 12 and 14. At the meeting, the Saudi government officials requested NRA to propose the list of projects.


NRA deputy spokesperson Dr. Bhishma Kumar Bhusal said the Authority has proposed to utilize the amount in the reconstruction of private houses, schools and health institutions and have already written to the Finance Ministry to hold further negotiation and finalize.


Joint secretaries Yam Lal Bhoosal and Krishna Dawadi and undersecretaries Dr Bhishma Kumar Bhusal and Binu Bajracharya Kunwar represented NRA in the meeting while those representing the Saudi government were chief engineer Abdullah M Al-Shoabi, regional manager of the operation department of the Fund for Development Nassir AlKasabi and senior specialist Saeed Aimshaikhi.
