Saptari in risk from climate change

RAJBIRAJ, Sept 27: Nine districts of the country are in high risk in climate change point of view.



Because of unmanaged urbanization, some Terai districts including Saptari are in such a risk, if the water level increases as there are dangers of bursting of eight glacial lakes.[break]



At a program organized here on the occasion of the World Habitat Day, it was informed that Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Ramechhap, Udayapur, Lamjung, Dolakha and Jajarkot were in high risk, whereas Ilam, Jhapa, Banke, Palpa and Rupandehi were in lesser risks.



They also said natural disasters caused by climate change are also making adverse impact.



Chief of the Town Development and Building Construction Division Office, Chakrawarti Kantha, said Nepal was in the 23rd place of countries with human loss from natural disasters and in eighth place in high deaths.



He said Nepal was in the seventh place in deaths from flood, soil erosion and avalanche.



CDO of Saptari, Lekhnath Pokhrel said only 39 percent people knew the change of climate and emphasized that the impact should be effectively minimized.
