RAJBIRAJ, May 8: Five days have elapsed since the fire in Joginiya VDC of Saptari gutted 125 houses and displaced 41 families. But the fire victims have still not received any relief from the government.

“We don´t have any food to eat,” said a 60-year old Sunaridevi Banbariya. “We have not received any relief supplies from the government. The fire destroyed everything we owned. It would be kind of the authorities to clear the rubble so that we can build new houses.” To make matters worse, the victims have been compelled to live under the open sky. [break]

According to the police, the fire gutted properties worth Rs 10 million. Meanwhile, another fire victim Santidevi Banbariya of Joginiya-7 shared that her daughter was about to get married. “But the fire destroyed everything,” said Shantidevi.
