KATHMANDU, Aug 28: Cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane is leaving for Pakistan on Monday morning to play Asia Cup cricket. According to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), he will fly to Pakistan via Doha by Qatar Airlines at 11:20AM.
It is said that he will play a match between Nepal and India on September 4 during the Asia Cup. He is likely to return to Nepal after that game. The next hearing on the rape case against him is scheduled for September 7. Lamichhane faces a charge of raping a minor girl.
A hearing on the case against Nepal's star cricketer was postponed on Sunday, allowing him to join teammates in Pakistan. Last year, Lamichhane was suspended as national captain and arrested, but was freed on bail in January and the Supreme Court then lifted the ban on him from playing.
The Nepali cricket team has already reached Pakistan. Sandeep was left behind in Nepal as a hearing on the case against him was initially scheduled for Sunday.
