Sandeep case: Police start collecting evidence and taking statements

KATHMANDU, Sept 7: The District Police Range Kathmandu has said that it will conduct an impartial investigation according to the complaint filed against the captain of the national cricket team, Sandeep Lamichhane.


Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bharat Bahadur Bohora, chief of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, said that the investigation against the captain of the national cricket team, Sandeep Lamichhane, has been started as per the complaint and the investigation will be carried out impartially.


The police have also taken forward the work of collecting evidence and taking statements. Police have also collected CCTV footage of hotels in Kathmandu and Nagarkot where he is said to have stayed. After completing all the paperwork, the police are preparing to request an arrest warrant from the District Court, Kathmandu.

Issuing a statement on Wednesday, the District Police Range Kathmandu said that a complaint has been lodged against the national cricket team captain Sandeep Lamichhane for raping a 17-year-old girl.


It is mentioned in the statement that the girl's health was examined at the One-Door Crisis Management Center (OCMC) immediately after the complaint was filed. The police registered the complaint and the victim was taken to the OCMC for a detailed health check-up, District Police Range, Kathmandu said.


According to the complaint, Sandeep Lamichhane, the captain of the Nepali national cricket team, took the girl to various places in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur on August 21 and brought her to a hotel (room no. 305) located at Kathmandu-9 at around 11:55 PM. According to the police, a complaint was registered against Lamichhane at the police station, Gaushala on Tuesday (September 6).


The police said that the incident is being thoroughly investigated by a police team jointly deployed from the District Police Range Kathmandu and Police Circle Gaushala using various methods and techniques of investigation.


Sandeep Lamichhane, the captain of the national cricket team, who has been accused of raping a minor, is now in the Caribbean country of Saint Lucia. He went on to play in the Caribbean Premier League, 2022.
