Speaking at the launching ceremony, Deepak Malhotra, executive director of IMS - the authorized distributor of Samsung Mobile in Nepal, said the hybrid gadget has advanced features compared to Samsung´s flagship Galaxy S3 phone.[break]
Galaxy Note II is powered by Android v4.1.1 Jelly Bean Operating System (OS) with a 1.6 GHz quad-core cortex-A9 processor. It is 15.1 cm long, 8 cm wide and 9.4 mm thin. The ´phablet´ - the term for phone, tablet hybrid -- comes with a new HD Super Amoled 5.5 inch capacitive touch screen with resolution of 720x1280 pixels. It also has S Pen stylus that makes it easier for the users to write notes or draw on the screen.
“We have been getting enquiries form customers ever since the gadget was launched in the global market,” Malhotra said, adding, “Our dealers have already taken bookings for around 60 units.”
The device supports 2G, 3G and 4G networks. Besides, the users do not have to worry about scratches and minor physical damages as the device is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 and have TouchWiz UI protection system.
The device also allows users to run two different programs at the same time by dividing the screen into two parts. “The latest processor helps the device to run multiple applications faster than the dual-core processor in the previous version,” IMS said in a statement on Sunday.
Galaxy Note II uses Exynos 4412 Quad chipset and Mali-400MP GPU. It sports a 8 mega pixel primary camera with auto focus and LED flash and 1.9 mega pixels secondary camera with features such as geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection and image stabilization. Its other features include accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer, stereo FM with Radio Data system (RDS), GPS and Java support, among others.
Customers carrying Galaxy Note II will not have to worry about charging quite often as it provides longer power back-up with standard Li-lon 3100 mAh battery which delivers standby time of up to 980 hours in 2G network and 890 hours in 3G network. According to the statement, it provides talk time of up to 35 hours in 2G network and up to 16 hours in 3G network.
“We have targeted to sell around 1,000 units of Note II per month,” Bishal Acharya CEO of IMS, said.
Galaxy Note II comes with internal memory of 16, 32 and 64 GB. But IMS has introduced only Note II with 16 GB internal memory. However, users can expand the memory up to 64 GB through a micro SD card.
The gadget, which is available in titanium grey and marble white colors, has been priced at Rs 70,000.
Meanwhile, IMS has also introduced Samsung Galaxy S Duos in the Nepali market. The phone features 4-inch touch screen and is powered by 1GHz Cortex A5 processor. It used Android V4.0 Icecream Sandwich Operating System. The phone, which has 4GB internal memory, costs Rs 31,500.
