Talking to Republica, SP General Secretary Manish Kumar Suman said, “We no longer feel attached to the UDMF,” adding, “We don´t know whether or not the UDMF exists as not a single meeting of the alliance has been held for the last five months.” [break]
SP has however yet to make a formal announcement.
SP Chairman Rajendra Mahato has lately been accusing Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP) Chairman Mahantha Thakur and Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Democratic (MPRF-D) Chairman Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar of being anti-Madhesi.
UDMF comprises MPRF-D, MPRF-Republican-led by Raj Kishor Yadav, TMDP, TMDP-Nepal led by Mahendra Yadav and SP.
Suman said that though the country in the past few weeks and months witnessed many political changes including the dissolution of the Baburam Bahttarai-led government, formation of Khil Raj-led Interim Election Council and appointment of Lokman Singh Karki as chief commissioner of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse Authority (CIAA), UDMF did not even consider these issues worthy of discussion.
When asked about the absence of Mahato in a meeting of the UDMF scheduled for last Saturday, Suman said, “He (Mahato) had already informed that he would be out of the Valley on the scheduled date.” The meeting was reportedly postponed as Mahato skipped it.
Suman also expressed surprise over selection of Gachchhadar as the new coordinator of the High-Level Political Committee by virtue of being the head of the UDMF, which he was not. “We had never selected Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar as the coordinator of UDMF but we recently heard that he has been named coordinator of High Level Political Committee,” he maintained.
A central committee meeting of SP held on May 27 and 28 had in the capital had decided to take initiatives to forge a new alliance of Madhesi, indigenous, Dalit, among other marginalized communities in a bid to work together for their common cause.
