KATHMANDU, March 3: Sabitra Bhandari, the forward of the Nepali national football team, made history by scoring her first goal in the Division 1 Féminine, the French women’s football league.
Bhandari, who currently plays for En Avant Guingamp, became the first Nepali to score a goal in Europe when she netted Guingamp’s second goal against Lille.
Following her participation in the WAFF Women’s Championship held in Saudi Arabia, Bhandari returned to France. Her absence was felt in the final match against Jordan, where Nepal lost in a penalty shootout and finished as the runner-up.
Bhandari had to leave the tournament before the final, impacting Nepal’s performance in the crucial game.
