KATHMANDU, Sept. 6: Parsa Police arrested seven people, including a rural municipality chairperson, from a casino operating at a resort in Gandak, Birgunj, on Saturday night.
District Police Office Parsa spokesperson DSP Chakra Bahadur Malla said the group, including Jaswant Yadav, chairperson of Sakhuwa Prasauni Rural Municipality, was detained from Golden Finger Casino at Clark Resort.

Malla said Yadav had arrived at the casino in the rural municipality’s official Scorpio bearing registration number Na. 1 Jha 1687.
Police said they are taking seriously the fact that an elected local representative entered the casino premises using a government vehicle.
Since Nepali citizens are prohibited from gambling at casinos in Nepal, Malla said authorities are investigating how the rural municipality chairperson was able to enter the casino while using an official government vehicle.
Parsa Police said further details about Yadav and the other six people arrested will be made public after they are presented before the court for an extension of their detention period.
