KATHMANDU, April 8: Nepali rupee lost 42 paisa against US dollar this week as the Indian currency, with which rupee is pegged, depreciated against the greenback. Gold price, on the other hand, went up by Rs 430 per 10 grams over the week.CURRENCY
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central monetary authority, opened currency trading on Sunday with value of dollar fixed at Rs 106.31.
Rupee lost 1 paisa against on Monday to close the day's trading at 106.32 against US dollar. However, the local unit appreciated by 15 paisa against the US dollar on Tuesday to close at 106.17. On Wednesday, rupee shed 43 paisa against to settle at 106.6 against the greenback. Rupee lost another 34 paisa on Thursday to end the day at 106.94 against dollar. The local currency, however, gained 20 paisa against US dollar on Friday to close the week's trading at 106.74.
Rupee lost 43 paisa against euro but gained Rs 2.14 against Pound Sterling over the week. On Friday, a euro exchanged at Rs 121.65 while Pound Sterling was valued Rs 150.19.
BULLION
Trading opened on Sunday with price of gold fixed at Rs 46, 295 per 10 grams. Gold price went down by Rs 170 per 10 grams on Monday to close the day's trading at Rs 46,125. Though the price remained unchanged on Tuesday, it increased by Rs 260 per 10 grams on Wednesday to Rs 46,385. Gold price remained unchanged on Thursday as well. However, the price went up by Rs 340 per 10 grams on Friday to close the week's trading at Rs 46,725.
Silver rice increased by Rs 4 per 10 grams this week. On Friday, silver was traded at Rs 613 per 10 grams.
