Currency
Nepali rupee gained 19 paisa against US dollar over the week to close at 106.46 on Friday. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central monetary authority, opened currency trading on Sunday with exchange rate of rupee against US dollar fixed at 106.65.
Though rupee gained Rs 1.22 on Monday, it shed 63 paisa on Tuesday to close at 106.06. Rupee´s freefall continued on Wednesday as well, as it lost a whooping Rs 2.97 against US dollar to close at the record low of 109.03. The local currency, however, rallied on remaining two trading days of the week, gaining Rs 1.2 on Thursday and Rs 1.37 on Friday -- the last trading day of the week -- to close at 106.46.
Rupee gained 1.19 against Euro but weakened by 1.01 against Pound Sterling this week. A euro was valued Rs 140.44 on Friday, while the Pound Sterling was exchanged at Rs 166.29.
Bullion
Gold lost its luster this week as its price went down by Rs 770 per 10 grams compared to last week. Bullion trading opened this week with gold price fixed at Rs 51,610 per 10 grams on Sunday.
Though the price went down by Rs 340 per 10 grams to Rs 51,270 per 10 grams on Monday, it rallied, gaining Rs 430 per 10 grams on Tuesday to close at Rs 51,700 per 10 grams. On Wednesday, gold priced increased by Rs 1,455 per 10 grams Rs 52,725. However, it came down by Rs 1,325 per 10 grams to close at Rs 51,440 on Thursday. On Friday, the last day of the week´s trading, price of gold slumped by Rs 600 per 10 grams to close at Rs 50,840.
Meanwhile, price of silver went down by Rs 8.85 per 10 gram this week. Silver was traded at Rs 879 per 10 grams on Friday.
