CURRENCY
Nepali rupee gained 34 paisa against greenback over the week. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central monetary authority, opened currency trading on Sunday with exchange rate of US dollar fixed at Rs 98.80.[break]
Rupee gained 15 paisa on Monday to close at 98.65. However, the local currency lost by 3 paisa on Tuesday to settle at 98.68 after the Indian currency weakened against US dollar. Rupee gained 3 paisa to settle at 98.65 on Wednesday and another 9 paisa to close at 98.56 on Thursday. The local currency continued its bull run on Friday, as it gained 10 paisa to close at Rs 98.46.
According to Reuters, the Indian rupee weakened on Thursday, hurt by dollar short-covering in later trade, but the local currency posted its second straight monthly gain on the back of continued buying of local shared by foreign institutional investors.
Meanwhile, rupee gained Rs 1.5 against Euro and Rs 2.34 against Pound Sterling over the week. A Euro was valued at Rs 134.98 on Friday, while the Pound Sterling was exchanged at Rs 157.83.
BULLION
Gold price went down by Rs 345 per 10 grams this week. Bullion trading opened this week with gold priced at Rs 48,700 per 10 grams on Sunday. On Monday, gold price went up by Rs 85 to Rs 48,785 per 10 grams. The price of yellow metal went up by another Rs 255 per 10 grams to close the trading at Rs 49,040 per 10 grams on Tuesday.
However, gold price went down by Rs 515 per 10 grams to Rs 48,525 on Wednesday and another Rs 170 per 10 grams to 48,355 per 10 grams on Thursday. On Friday - the last trading day of the week, gold price remained unchanged at Rs 48,355 per 10 grams.
Similarly, price of silver went down by Rs 8.5 per 10 grams this week. On Friday, silver was traded at Rs 806 per 10 grams.
